The ºüÀêÊÓÆµ Galleria will lose one of its anchor tenants this summer.Â
Nordstrom confirmed that the department store chain's last day at the mall will be Aug. 24. It will be replaced by a Dick's House of Sport, officials said.Â
“We believe we’ll be best able to serve customers in the area by leveraging our surrounding stores and through our digital channels,†company spokesperson Silas Hill said in a statement. “Decisions like this are never easy and we understand the impact they have on our team members.â€
Hill said that they are “taking care of our employees through this transition,†which includes helping workers find new placements within the Seattle-based company.
Over the past few months, the Richmond Heights mall has seen a number of stores leave, such as Forever21, Anthropologie, Altar'd State, GameStop and Aveda. But it's been buoyed by the recent openings of JD Sports, Luxmen, Savage Fenty, Miniso and Barnes & Noble.

According to the website of Galleria owner Brookfield Properties, the mall currently lists only two vacant spaces for lease. Brookfield Properties confirmed that Dick’s House of Sport, a larger, more experiential shopping concept from Pittsburgh-based Dick's Sporting Goods will take over the Nordstrom space. Officials would not give a timeline.
House of Sport stores have batting cages, rock walls and golfing simulators, while also offering athletic apparel and gear. Mall officials would not say when it would open.
Malls, in general, have been on the decline as foot traffic slows thanks to the rising popularity of online shopping and delivery. As a result, department stores have struggled. After coming out of bankruptcy in 2022,  has continued to slowly close its stores across the country. In 2020, , Lord & Taylor and Neiman Marcus filed for bankruptcy. And Macy's is closing about 150 stores over the next three years.Â
In the ºüÀêÊÓÆµ region, the Macy's at the South County Center permanently closed earlier this year. The mall's owner, Tennessee-based CBL Properties, told the Post-Dispatch that it would turn the former Macy’s into a mixed-use space as malls see more revenue with properties with tailored experiences.Â
°Õ³ó±ðÌýChesterfield Mall was recently demolished after nearly 50 years to make way for a new “downtown†concept, complete with shops, restaurants, businesses, a park and multifamily units.Â
According to Capital One Shopping's research arm, an average of 1,170 shopping malls closed every year between 2017 and 2022 in the United States and up to 87% of large shopping malls may close over the next 10 years.Â
Nordstrom opened at the ºüÀêÊÓÆµ Galleria, complete with 30 personal stylists, in 2011.Â

Locally, the company has Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack locations at West County Center, Brentwood Square and Manchester Highlands shopping centers.
As of February, the company reported 92 Nordstrom locations and 277 Nordstrom Racks locations.
In recent years, the brand has focused on expanding its more affordable Nordstrom Rack footprint as sales . In its most recent earnings report, Nordstrom reported that it opened 23 Nordstrom Rack stores in fiscal 2024 and plans to open 20 more this year.Â
Last month, the company announced that the founding Nordstrom family and Mexican retailer El Puerto de Liverpool officially bought the business for $6.25 billion.
